Before your appointment

Preparing for your initial consultation

An initial consultation will involve a detailed history of symptoms, past medical and surgical history, and examination of the eye.

Dr Northey will establish what you aim to achieve from the consultation and address any specific concerns provided within the referral.

Prior to consultation with Dr Northey you may be required to undergo onsite imaging and testing of the eye which has been deemed relevant to your condition.

On the day of your appointment

What to bring to your first appointment?

  • A current referral
  • Medicare card, DVA card, and pension card where applicable
  • Current and previous glasses or contact lens prescription
  • Previous tests arranged by your GP or Optometrist
  • Details of any previous eye surgery
  • Details of current medications
  • A health summary which may be provided by your GP

How long will my initial appointment take?

Appointment duration will vary depending upon individual requirements; however, we recommend allowing 2 hours for an initial consultation.

What testing may be required during my consultation?

There are a range of technologies now available to image the eye in detail. Dr Northey may use these technologies to provide you with an accurate assessment of your condition and enable guidance on treatment options if applicable.

What is involved in the process of arranging surgery?

Following a comprehensive review of your symptoms, medical history, and examination Dr Northey will discuss the findings of the consultation and any surgical options available. This will include a discussion of the risks and benefits of surgery and details of the procedure. A financial consent will also be provided following the consultation, prior to proceeding with surgery.

Dr Northey operates at several accredited private surgical facilities across Sydney and regional NSW. Hospital and booking details will be provided on the day of the consultation.
